Born at the La Rochelle University within the Master's program Direction de Projets Audiovisuels et Numériques (DPAN), the ZERO1 Festival brings together over twenty national and international artists and professionals from the cultural sector each year to explore the hybridization of the arts and digital cultures.
Run entirely by students in their final year of the Master's program, the Festival stands out for the dynamic, ongoing renewal of its team, giving it a freshness and topicality unlike any other, while providing a framework for professional projects.
Three main axes form the core of the project: the dialogue between architectural heritage and contemporary creation, the issues and challenges of digital technology in the cultural sector, and the professionalization of young people: artists, researchers and future directors of cultural establishments.
1. Arts & Sciences creation
Application deadline : September 29th 2024 midnight
In partnership with La Rochelle University and its research laboratories, Festival ZERO1 will support up to four artists or artists' collectives in the creation of original works. These works will be developed from a dialogue with researchers and their research topics related to the theme of “slowing down”.
For more information on this chapter, download the scoping document here (PDF)
2. Distribution of existing works
Application deadline : October 15th 2024 midnight
Artists are invited to submit works on the theme “slow down”, whose interpretation remains free and forms can be varied. These works may include installations combining different artistic disciplines (see examples on our website), video art performances, virtual reality, augmented reality, urban interventions, as well as ephemeral installations in public space, among others.
3. Anti-colloquium
Application deadline : November 15th 2024 midnight
To celebrate its 10th edition, the ZERO1 festival inaugurates a new cycle dedicated to collective reflection: the anti-colloquium. Designed as a space for meeting and debate, it will be held during the first three days of the Festival, from April 14 to 21, 2025.
Launching a cycle of reflection within the framework of a festival where creation, science and technology meet calls for rethinking traditional formats. Inspired by the experiences of research groups such as SensLAB in Quebec, the School of Machines in Berlin, the School for Poetic Computation in New York and the No School in Nevers, the anti-colloquium is intended to be a true space for exploration and research. The theme for this 10th edition will be “slow down”.
Specifically, we invite artists and researchers from all disciplines related to creation, thought, design, media, architecture and urban planning to submit proposals that, starting from the question of “slow down”, also include a reflection on the form, such as: travelling conferences or cycling, urban routes with stages of discussion, workshops combining creation and reflection, round tables in public places, declamations in bars, Evening sessions, creative writing workshops, performing lectures, and serious games.
Through this original format, the anti-colloquium aims to provide an inclusive framework where dialogue, reflection and creation feed into each other, while encouraging participants to explore new ways of sharing and producing knowledge. By integrating these diverse practices, the ZERO1 festival aims to renew the traditional approach of academic symposia and promote an open, dynamic and participatory culture of thought.
