Carré Amelot opened in 1969 as "La Maison des Jeunes" and was renamed Carré Amelot in 1990. In 2016, it became a department of the City of La Rochelle's Cultural Directorate, serving as a cultural hub that develops artistic and cultural projects in tandem with the city's other cultural institutions.
