Free Time by Samuel Bianchini is an interactive installation where time becomes a playground. On a large screen, a sun-drenched landscape unfolds, blending a majestic cliff with an impeccably manicured golf course. While the golfers enjoy their leisure, the spectators are not mere observers: they have the power to influence the flow of time. Through their intervention, the tempo of the game accelerates, slows down, or freezes, turning the players' carefree activity into an unpredictable experience. Through this playful duality, Free Time questions our relationship with free time, our mastery of reality, and the illusions of having absolute control over our environment and our pleasures.
Samuel Bianchini is an artist and associate professor at the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. His work implements physical and symbolic operations in context, in public, and in real time, encouraging us to contemplate, reflect, and act. Championing the principle of an "operational aesthetic," the artist explores the relationships between our most forward-looking technological systems, our modes of representation, our new forms of aesthetic experience, and our sociopolitical organizations.
