What does human touch mean in an era of ubiquitous digitalization? What does it signify when one person touches another through virtual interactions? In our hyperconnected world, everyone leaves digital footprints everywhere. But these are not mere traces: they are thoughts and intentions, capable of reaching people from a distance and leaving lasting effects. Without physical presence, the way we communicate and touch the hearts and minds of others is profoundly distorted by the immediate media we constantly use and consume, and by the way these media shape our messages, our exchanges, our habits, and our sensibilities. We want to invite the public to reconsider their virtual interactions. To rethink how we perceive ourselves in these digital worlds. To hit "reset," to question our empathy by reconnecting with a time when physical interactions were more common and being present with others was a meaningful experience. Through this interactive installation, our goal is to reflect on how our presence is deposited in the virtual realm and how it will be perceived and felt by others—not only in the future, but starting today. It is our responsibility to consider the messages we leave for others.
What is human touch in an age of ubiquitous digitalization? What does it mean when a person touches another, through virtual interactions? People leave their digital footprints all over our hyperconnected world. However, these are more than footprints. They are someone's thoughts and intentions; they are able to touch people from a distance and it can leave lasting effects. Without physical presence, the way we communicate and touch each other's hearts and minds is deeply distorted through the immediate media we constantly use and consume and the way those media shape our messages, our communication, our customs and our sensibilities. We want people to reconsider their virtual interactions. To rethink the way we see each other in these virtual worlds. To reset, to question their empathy to a time where physical interaction was more common and being able to be present with other people was a significant experience. Through this interactive installation, it is our goal to reflect on the way our presence is left in the virtual and how others will see it and feel it, not only in the future but also in the present. It is our responsibility to think about the messages we leave for others.
