U.A.V. est une réinterprétation des drones comme moyens de pratique contre-institutionnelle, les détournant de leurs origines et usages actuels liés au militaire et à la surveillance. S’appuyant sur la puissance contre-culturelle, riche d’histoires, du graffiti et du street art, U.A.V. construit un écosystème visant à soutenir une expression performative au sein d’une société toujours plus surveillée et restrictive. À travers cette œuvre, les artistes proposent un outil de contestation à celles et ceux qui souhaitent contrer le pouvoir dominant, via une approche open source qui abaisse les barrières techniques et discursives associées à ces technologies. Pour le public, U.A.V. se présente comme une boîte à outils transportable, prête à l’emploi : les participant·e·s sont invité·e·s, via une interface sur tablette, à proposer des dessins et des lieux d’intervention, qui seront ensuite pulvérisés de manière autonome par l’U.A.V. Ce faisant, chacun·e contribue aussi à un corpus de formes potentielles d’expression contre-culturelle, réappropriable et remixable par les futur·e·s utilisateur·ice·s de l’œuvre, participant ainsi à l’évolution de son impact.
U.A.V. is a reinterpretation of drones as means of counter-institutional practice, appropriating it away from its military and surveillance roots and current uses. Relying on the storied counter-cultural power of graffiti and street art, U.A.V. builds an ecosystem to power performative expression within an ever-more surveilled and restricted society. Through this work, the artists offer a tool of contestation to those that wish to counter dominant power, and does it through an open-source approach, lowering the technical and discursive barriers associated with it. To the audience, U.A.V. proposes a ready-to-use transportable toolbox, and asks the audience to propose drawings and locations of interests through a tablet interface, to be autonomously sprayed by the U.A.V. In so doing, the participant also contributes to a corpus of potential counter-cultural expression, re-appropriable and remixable for later users of the work, and contributing to its evolving impact.
