Slow Track is a computer-generated video that defies the visual standards of modern animation technology. Far from the polished, idealized depictions found in architectural visualizations, it reveals spaces that are dirty, dusty, and cluttered. Although the rendering appears photorealistic, no footage was filmed and no real-world locations are depicted.
Rather than imitating the world, Slow Track offers a reflection on the very nature of the digital images that shape our perception. By blurring the lines between reality and simulation, the work invites us to question our relationship with artificial environments and the way they influence our vision of the real.
Montreal-based artist Timothy Thomasson explores how moving images are produced and consumed in both historical and contemporary contexts, with a particular focus on the impact of computer-generated imagery and emerging technologies on society, culture, and perception. He works primarily with computer animation, utilizing real-time technologies to create constantly generative environments.
